Raphael Collignon secured the biggest win of his career against Alex De Minaur as Belgium have a 2-0 lead in Sydney.
It was a tough day at the office for De Minaur who looked in control of the match against Collignon.
The task was made tougher for the Belgian as he suffered from cramps before completing an extraordinary 7-5 3-6 6-3 victory to give the away team the lead in Sydney.
After the match Collignon was in disbelief after winning a sensational match, “It feels amazing, I thought I wouldn’t be able to finish the match because I got cramp so bad at the beginning of the third,” Collignon was quoted by world wide of sports as saying.
“I tried to play with that strength, tried to go for it, focus on the serve, and I don’t know how I won, yeah, crazy. I think when you play for your country, there is no pain … I am very happy I won.”
The day was made even better for the Belgian fans that travelled to Sydney as they saw Zizou Bergs defeat Jordan Thompson to claim a 2-0 lead over Australia.
In the doubles Rinky Hijikata and John Peers will face Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen before the reverse singles on Sunday.
Australia need to win all three rubbers to advance to the final eight in Bologna.
In other results Germany have already booked their place in Italy in November after an unassailable 4-0 lead over Japan.
There are also 2-0 victories for Argentina, Austria and France while the USA and Czech Republic are tied at 1-1 after wins for Jiri Lehecka and Taylor Fritz.
On Saturday, the final tie of the second round of qualifiers will begin as Denmark take on Spain.
