Iga Swiatek has been given a rough draw as she bids to defend her title at Roland Garros and claim a fifth title in Paris.
The Pole enters Roland Garros having not won a title this season in what has been an underwhelming season.
However, Swiatek will not give up her Roland Garros crown without a fight as she will hope to gain confidence over the fortnight.
That will be a difficult challenge for the Pole who starts her campaign against Rebecca Sramkova with the likes of Emma Raducanu, Marta Kostyuk, Jelena Ostapenko and Jasmine Paolini in her quarter of the draw.
Also in the second quarter of the draw is a mouth-watering tie between Elena Rybakina and the in-form Belinda Bencic.
Swiatek’s main rivals Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff have been given a much more favourable draw on the road to the title.
Madrid champion Sabalenka begins her campaign against Kamilla Rakhimova while Danielle Collins or Leylah Fernandez are the favourites to face the world number one in the third round.
In the quarter-finals Sabalenka could be given the opportunity to get Rome revenge over Qinwen Zheng who begins against former finalist Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
Meanwhile Gauff will begin against Olivia Gadecki with former champion Barbora Krejcikova a potential quarter-final match.
Awaiting Gauff in the quarter-finals could be Madison Keys who starts against a qualifier before facing either Victoria Azarenka or Sofia Kenin in the third round.
Finally in the third section of the draw there is a blockbuster first round clash as Naomi Osaka takes on Paula Badosa in quarter of the draw that features Jessica Pegula, Mirra Andreeva and Daria Kasatkina.
Main draw action starts on Sunday.
