Lorenzo Musetti held his nerve to reach a first Masters 1000 final in Monte-Carlo with a three set win over Alex De Minaur.
The Italian broke new ground on a wet day in Monaco and had to respond to a poor first set in which De Minaur dominated proceedings.
However, Musetti rallied playing some sensational yet patient tennis to edge past De Minaur 1-6 6-4 7-6(4) to reach his first Masters 1000 final of his career.
Speaking after the match Musetti reflected on the hard-fought contest and spoke about how his confidence has improved throughout the week, “I always struggle to start and find a rhythm but today Alex was playing really solid and the conditions were hard. It was slow today with the rain and it was not easy to break through the Alex wall. I started to be more patient and that was the key,” Musetti told the ATP website.
“The confidence is something that you have to experience to believe. It is something really remarkable, sharing these beautiful moments with my friends and family. It is my home and I feel at home.”
Now Musetti will look to win his first Masters 1000 title when he takes on Carlos Alcaraz for the title.
Alcaraz currently leads the head-to-head 3-1 but Musetti’s only win came when he won his first ATP 500 title in Hamburg in what was a cracking final.
