Iga Swiatek has made the ‘difficult decision’ to withdraw from next week’s Billie Jean King Qualifiers on home soil.

Poland are due to face Switzerland and Ukraine in April’s qualifiers in Radom as they look to qualify for the Finals.

However, the Pole’s have been dealt a blow as Iga Swiatek has made the tough decision to withdraw from the event on home soil.

Speaking on social media Swiatek admitted it was a ‘difficult decision’ but a necessary one, “I have made a difficult decision,” Swiatek began her statement by saying.

I know that this is not the information that fans, especially Polish fans, wanted, nevertheless, it is the right decision for me for now. I will not play in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifying tournament, which will be held in Radom.

I always represent my country with pride. I played everything there was to be played for the country last year. I am extremely proud of the historic team success – the BJKC semifinals and the UC finals.

Now it’s time for more balance, focusing on myself and my training. I keep my fingers crossed for the girls and the whole team.”

The decision comes at a critical time for Swiatek who heads into a busy clay court swing as she aims to defend Madrid, Rome and Roland Garros.

However the Pole enters the swing having not won a single title this season.

Meanwhile the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers take place on the week of the 7th of April with Poland entering as slight favourites to win the group.
