Carlos Alcaraz continued his dominant start to the clay court season with a 6-2 6-4 win over Laslo Djere in Barcelona.
The Spaniard is aiming for a third title in Barcelona and is looking to back up his title win in Monte-Carlo last week.
After defeating Ethan Quinn in his opening round, Alcaraz continued to show his dominant tennis by comfortably knocking out the Serb.
Reflecting on his form Alcaraz admitted he is relieved to save his energy for future rounds, “I think as much as I can win in straight sets, it’s much better to save energy for the matches that I have coming forward,” the Spaniard stated to the ATP website.
“I think I played great tennis, even better than the first round, even though I had to come back from 4-2 in the second set. I think he played much better in that second set, but really happy to find a great level again and hopefully keep going.”
Meanwhile the player that Alcaraz beat in the semi-finals last week, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has continued his good start to the clay court season as he dumped out Andrey Rublev in Barcelona 7-5 6-4.
In the quarter-finals on Friday, Davidovich Fokina will face Karen Khachanov while Alcaraz takes on either Jacob Fearnley or fifth seed Alex De Minaur.
