Coleman Wong has dedicated his shock win over Ben Shelton to Hong Kong as he reached the third round in Miami.

It was the biggest win of Wong’s career as he stunned the 13th seed 7-6(3) 2-6 7-6(5) in two hours and 17 minutes.

The world number 182 held his nerve when it mattered most as he took his second match point to secure the biggest moment of his career.

After the match Wong dedicated his win to his home country Hong Kong, “I didn’t play for a year and a half and I’m really lucky my team keeps supporting me. I’m really happy. This is for you Hong Kong,” Wong told the ATP website.

“I always trust myself to play in these big stages… I had a tough time [during] the COVID times. My parents, my coaches, my team. They really helped me a lot from highs and lows. They know that I’m struggling and came in here, [it was] not easy. Playing against a guy like Ben, it’s a dream [to do that], since when I was young. Playing big tournaments against top players, I’m really happy.”

It is the second lowest ranked player to win a match in Miami for ten years with the lowest ranked being Martin Damm last year.

Furthermore Wong snapped Shelton’s 14 match winning streak in opening matches at Masters 1000 events as Wong will now take on lucky loser Adam Walton in the third round.
