Venus Williams will make her tennis return at Indian Wells next month after being given a main draw wildcard.
The seven-time Grand Slam champion hasn’t played since last year’s Miami Open where she lost in the opening round to Diana Shnaider.
The American hadn’t officially announced her retirement and it was unclear whether she would return to the sport or not.
However Williams will now play Indian Wells next year after receiving a wildcard and will now play the event as a 44 year-old.
It will be Williams’ tenth appearance at Indian Wells and will play the event as the world number 974.
Should Williams win a match in California then it will be her first win on tour since the 2023 Western and Southern Open where she defeated Veronika Kudermetova in the opening round.
Joining Williams as a wildcard is Petra Kvitova who will be making her return to the tour in Austin, Texas which will take place just before Indian Wells.
The Czech Republican is returning after being a mother and played her last event at the 2023 China Open.
Indian Wells begins on the 5th of March with Iga Swiatek being the defending champion.
