Naomi Osaka is targeting big ambitions for the season as she reflects on a turbulent opening to 2025.

It’s been a turbulent start to the 2025 season for Osaka as she made an incredible start to the season in Auckland by reaching the final.

However, Osaka retired in the final against Clara Tauson due to a rib injury although that didn’t stop her from competing at the Australian Open.

Despite wins against Caroline Garcia and Karolina Muchova, Osaka retired in her third round match against Belinda Bencic and has retired during a match from her last three matches.

Speaking in an interview to CNN Osaka has reflected on her start to the year and admits she has big ambitions on and off the court, “I think I’m playing really well, even from last year, the end of last year,” Osaka was quoted by tennis365 as saying.

“I got injured there too. But I’ve beaten some really good players. So I hope that I can continue that trend. I have a lot of goals going forward. For as long as I can play, I really want to win Wimbledon and Roland Garros and get a Career Grand Slam.

“It’s interesting when I hear from an outside perspective because, of course, all of the achievements [in her career so far] are great, but I always feel like there’s a lot more to do.”

It’s good to hear Osaka having motivation as she has won four Grand Slam titles in her career and has been a former world number one.

As Osaka mentioned, her next big goal is to win the career Grand Slam as she bids for Roland Garros and Wimbledon glory this year.

However before thinking about Roland Garros, Osaka will be heading to Indian Wells and Miami for back-to-back WTA 1000 titles.

In order to prepare for the sunshine double Osaka will take on world number one Aryna Sabalenka in an exhibition event in Las Vegas and Osaka is looking forward to the event, “What I’m looking forward to the most is the atmosphere,” Osaka stated.

“I’ve been to Las Vegas before, but obviously never to play any tennis. So that should be really exciting. I rarely play exhibitions, and it’s also the lead up into Palm Springs, Indian Wells. So I hope that you know, there’s a lot of really good tennis to be played.”

The match will take place this Saturday.
