Emma Raducanu will fly out to Australia earlier than usual in order to begin her season successfully.
Raducanu’s 2024 was blighted by injuries once again but the Brit had some moments of magic including her run to the second week of Wimbledon.
Now with her ranking just outside the world’s top 50, Raducanu is aiming to gain an advantage of her competitors ahead of the 2025 season.
Not only has Raducanu hired fitness coach Yutaka Nakamura, who has previously worked with Naomi Osaka and Maria Sharapova, the Brit is also travelling to Australia this week in order to get an advantage over everyone else.
Speaking about the decision Raducanu stated that her putting in the fitness work already as a result of her injuries means she can travel to Australia earlier than expected, “I had a bit of a different pre-season this year because I was injured earlier, and I did a lot of training. So I just want to get out in the heat a bit earlier,” Raducanu was quoted by tennis 365 as saying.
“It makes sense to go all the way rather than go somewhere and then come back and then fly out again. I feel really strong. I feel really fit. The only thing I can’t really speak for, is I haven’t played that many matches. So it’s different.
“On the training court I feel amazing. I feel like I’m running around, throwing myself around on the court, but it’s different playing matches. I played a few at Billie Jean King Cup, and I felt good. I felt like I recovered well. I wasn’t tiring in the matches. It would just be good to see as the level increases, and if I have to play more back-to-back, how I’m going to react.”
Raducanu will hope the strategy pays off as she will play her first tournament of the year in Auckland on the 30th of December.
Then the Brit will compete at the Australian Open in Melbourne which begins on the 12th of January.
