Alex De Minaur spoke about Nick Kyrgios’ pending return and admitted he is optimistic ahead of the 2025 season.

It was a phenomenal season for De Minaur in 2024 as he became a top ten player for the first time as well as qualifying for the Nitto ATP Finals for the first time.

The Australian produced stunning results throughout the season as he made big strides towards being a consistently world class player.

Now De Minaur will hope to begin where he left off in 2025 as he begins the year on home soil as he will start the season at the United Cup.

Speaking on his 2024 season, De Minaur admitted he felt hard done by injuries but is ready for the new season to begin, “I think I got a little bit hard done by this year with the injury kind of stopping me at the peak of my rankings, so I’m definitely on the right track in the right direction doing the right things, and I’m feeling great on the court,” De Minaur was quoted by tennis365 as saying.

“So, hopefully, I can start 2025 with a new slate, fully fit and hopefully keep on the same track momentum that I started last year. [I need to] keep working, keep getting stronger.

“These guys hit the ball so hard, so I’ve got to adapt, I’ve got to evolve and if I want to be among the best tennis players in the world, there’s no other way than working for it, so that’s the plan.”

De Minaur will be hoping to be the leading hopeful for Australia at the Australian Open as he bids to reach a first quarter-final in Melbourne having gone out three years in a row at the last 16 stage.

However De Minaur will not be the only big Australian name returning to Melbourne as Nick Kyrgios also makes his return this year.

The Australian spoke about how Kyrgios’ preparations are going and the anticipation surrounding it, “I think everyone in the whole tennis world is looking forward to having him back,” De Minaur told Eurosport.

“He’s obviously an incredible talent and has done some great things in the sport, so I’m sure the whole tennis world will be very excited to watch him play and compete again. He’s been getting back from rehab, trying to do his best. I’ve seen he’s starting in Brisbane, so I’m sure there’s going to be a lot of eyeballs on that.”

The Australian Open begins on the 12th of January.
