Novak Djokovic has insisted tennis remains his top priority heading into 2025 after withdrawing from the ATP Finals.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion pulled out of the event, which he has won the past two years, due to a minor injury issue. Djokovic has only claimed one Tour title this year which was at the Paris Olympic Games. It is the first time he has ended a year without a Grand Slam trophy since 2017 and it is also the first time he hasn’t won multiple events within the same season since 2005.
In recent months, Djokovic has spoken openly about restructuring his schedule with the priority being on the four major events. Despite this, he remains fully committed to the spot.
“Tennis is still my focus! I am going at full throttle in the off-season, we go for another ride. I just needed to recharge and refresh a bit after an exhausting year,“ Djokovic recently told Sport Klub.
As for his return to action, the Serbian has confirmed he will be playing during the first week of January but is undecided about what event it will be. There will be tournaments taking place in Hong Kong and Brisbane which are both ATP 250s.
“I am going to play in the first week of the season, I am just not sure yet where. Then, of course, Australian Open.“ He said.
Djokovic, who is 37, has also indicated that he would like to play in the Davis Cup again at some point. He ends this season with a win-loss record of 37-9.
