Iga Swiatek spoke about her happiness as she lead Poland to the United Cup Final.
Poland defeated France 3-0 to book a place in Sunday’s final against either Australia or Germany.
Swiatek clinched the tie by defeating Caroline Garcia 4-6 6-1 6-1 in an impressive comeback win.
The world number one was inspired by Hubert Hurkacz’s earlier 6-3 7-5 win over Adrian Mannarino which gave Poland the lead.
Speaking after her match Swiatek explained her delight at not only coming back to beat Caroline Garcia but also leading Poland into the United Cup final, “I’m happy that I came back and I didn’t make so many mistakes as in the first set,” Swiatek told the United Cup website.
“For sure, Caro was putting pressure as usual, so I’m happy that we’re through to the final. Hubi played a great match today. He had everything under control, and it was nice watching that. For sure it [made it] a little bit easier for me.
“Sometimes it’s a bit hard to point [to] one thing that changed [after the first set]. I just feel like I needed to calm down a little bit and not rush it, and also observe the ball a little bit more, because I felt like I was sometimes off the timing.
“Maybe because we came from Perth, but for sure I needed some time to adjust, and I did that, so I’m happy.”
Poland will now face either Australia or Germany in the final on Sunday as they look to become the second champions of the United Cup.
The final will take place at 6:30am GMT time on Sunday.
