Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff completed the semi-final line-up at the WTA Finals in Cancun.

Swiatek went 3-0 in the Chetumal Group after a dominant 6-1 6-2 win over Ons Jabeur.

This happened after Coco Gauff won a big battle with Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova 5-7 7-6(4) 6-3 in two hours and 33 minutes.

As a result of the two results, Gauff joined Swiatek in the final four of the WTA Finals with Ons Jabeur leaving the competition.

After the match Gauff said that her aggression paid off in the end against a stubborn Vondrousova, “I felt like I needed to hit through the court,” Gauff explained to the WTA website.

“She’s a very tricky player. When you play her pace and let her move you side to side it’s tough. And I played her, it’s my third time, so I know that.

“But obviously, in the wind, it’s tough to be as aggressive as you want, because the bounces are weird and the ball was moving. So I’m glad I made that adjustment and didn’t get too frustrated when I missed. You pay the price for hopefully a good reward.”

Next for Gauff will be doubles partner Jessica Pegula who heads into the last four having won all three of her group stage matches.

The other semi-final will see Swiatek take on near rival Aryna Sabalenka in a match that will probably decide who ends the year as the world number one.

Speaking ahead of the match Swiatek admitted that facing Sabalenka is never easy, “We’ll see what the conditions are going to be,” Swiatek stated to the WTA website.

“Against Aryna it’s never easy. I’m just gonna do my best and focus on myself and what I want to do on court. We usually have these matches that are really exciting and really tough, both mentally and physically.”

The semi-finals will start at 10pm GMT time with Pegula v Gauff being the first of the two semi-final matches.
