Carlos Alcaraz is focused and motivated to face Alexander Zverev after defeating Grigor Dimitrov 6-2 7-5 in Madrid.
The Spaniard is through to the last 16 after the straight sets win over the Bulgarian.
Alcaraz showed his impressive level breaking Dimitrov’s serve on four occasions as he secured a 17th consecutive win on Spanish soil.
Now Alcaraz will face Alexander Zverev in the last 16 in a rematch from last year’s final which the Spaniard won.
Speaking after the match Alcaraz said he is focussed for the contest and wants to show a high level, “I really want to play that match. We played a few times, head-to-head he is up,” the Spaniard explained to the ATP website.
“I really want to show my great level here in front of my home crowd. I have great memories from last year in the final but obviously I have to be really focussed in that match. I know that Sascha is a really good player, a really aggressive one with good serves. I have to show all my skills.
“When we practised, it helped me a lot in the tactical game, what I had to do. Obviously I was focussed on myself all the time, trying to hit the ball really clear and with a lot of power. That was the goal at the beginning of the match, trying to play aggressive all the time.”
Apart from their meeting in Madrid last year, Zverev has won their other three meetings including winning at the Roland Garros quarter-finals last year.
The winner of Tuesday’s clash will take on either Karen Khachanov or Andrey Rublev in the quarter-finals.
