Paula Badosa and Ajla Tomljanovic have withdrawn from the Australian Open.
It’s less than 48 hours before the first Grand Slam of the season in Melbourne as the world’s best players look to achieve their dream.
However for two players, their dream has already ended before it even started as both Paula Badosa and Ajla Tomljanovic.
Starting with Badosa, the world number 11 injured herself during her epic 7-6(5) 7-5 victory over Beatriz Haddad Maia in Adelaide.
As a result Badosa had to withdraw from her semi-final with Daria Kasatkina and now it turns out the injury is worse than first feared.
This means the Spaniard will now miss the Australian Open with Badosa originally being scheduled to face Caty McNally.
In a short statement Badosa said she was said to miss the event for Melbourne and is looking to return to the tour as soon as possible.
Badosa will now be replaced by Brazilian lucky loser Laura Pigossi.
As for Tomljanovic, the Australian number one had to withdraw from her home tournament after earlier in the season withdrawing from the United Cup.
Tomljanovic has had some incredible performances in Melbourne in the past including that epic match with Simona Halep a couple of years ago.
The Australian was originally due to face Nadia Podoroska but her spot will now go to Leolia Jeanjean.
However for everyone else, the Australian Open kicks off on Monday with the top halves of the men’s and women’s draw.
