The LTA have confirmed that next week’s Glasgow group stage event will go ahead as planned despite the death of Queen Elizabeth II last night.
Queen Elizabeth II’s death has shook every sector in the world with a number of sports paying tribute to the monarch.
Before Ons Jabeur and Caroline Garcia’s US Open semi-final there was a minute silence to commemorate the Queen.
There were concerns that the news would mean that next week’s Davis Cup event in Glasgow would not take place especially after the postponement of this weekend’s Premier League and Women’s Super League fixtures.
However the LTA have confirmed that the event will take place with a minute’s silence taking place before each day’s play with the Great Britain team wearing black armbands.
Furthermore, there will be a postponement of play for the day if the Queen’s funeral was to take place during the event next week.
The LTA produced the following statement:
The event in Glasgow will see USA, Great Britain, Kazakhstan and the Netherlands compete for a place in the quarter-finals which will take place in November.
The top two events will qualify for the last eight with the likes of Taylor Fritz, Andy Murray, Cameron Norrie and Alexander Bublik all competing at the event.
The event will start on Tuesday and will conclude on the Sunday.
