The number three seed beat her Romanian opponent in straight sets in a match that lasted 90 minutes.

Emma Raducanu booked her spot in the quarterfinals of the Transylvania Open, being held at the BT Arena in Cluj Napoca, beating a home favourite Ana Bogdan 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 30 minutes.

The Brit won 87% of her first serve points in a match that looked routine but wasn’t as the second set got really competitive and she had to fight back to make sure she won in two sets and not three.

“I thought it was a very difficult match today Anna (Bogdan) is a great mover and a great athlete so it was very difficult to get the ball past her and I felt like the ball kept coming back but I think I managed to stay patient and keep going and In the end I thought I served it out pretty well.”

It was actually the Romanian who started the match better, putting great pressure on the Raducanu serve to earn three chances to break in the first game of the match the but the US Open champion saved all three and managed to hold serve.

In the next game, the world number 23 went on the offensive earning three chances to break and broke the world number 106 to take an early 2-0 lead with that break of serve being enough to serve out the first set.

Raducanu carried the momentum into the beginning of the second set and once again got an early break in the first game of the set but at 2-1, Bogdan fought back by getting the break back.

It stayed on serve until 3-3 when once again the Brit earned a chance to break and took it and was able to serve out the match. In her post match press conference she was asked about reaching her first WTA circuit quarterfinal and she was pretty pleased with the result.

“It’s a really cool moment for me and it’s only up from here and I think it’s a new experience for me and I am so happy that my first two wins were here in Cluj in Romania and they really cheered me on and made me feel very welcome so I want to stay in the tournament for as long as possible.”

Raducanu will face the Ukranian Marta Kostyuk in the quarterfinals after she beat the German Mona Barthel in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
