Svetlana Kuznetsova has admitted that she is unsure when she will be returning to competitive tennis as she focuses on her health.
The 36-year-old hasn’t played a match since her first round loss to qualifier Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove at Wimbledon in July. It was the fifth consecutive match Kuznetsova has lost on the Tour. Shortly after Wimbledon, she pulled out of the Olympics because of an injury. On social media, she wrote last month that her injury doesn’t allow her to play ‘at the proper level’ in order to compete at the Games.
Providing an update on her health, the world No.45 admits that it is still up in the air as to when she will play again. Raising doubts about if she will play another tournament this year. Her assessment was in response to fans asking when she will return to the Tour.
“Thank you for all the care and messages, It’s very important to me. Unfortunately, I’m not sure yet, when I’ll be able to compete again. Will keep you updated. Health care is the number (one) for me at the moment,” she wrote in her Instagram story.
Now back in Moscow training, Kuznetsova also opened up about her favourite way to keep fit which doesn’t involve anything related to tennis.
“It’s not about the most difficult workouts, but the more pleasant things – I love walking or cycling. It‘s the most affordable and simple but effective cardio.” She said in Russian.
This year Kuznetsova has won just five out of 14 matches played on the Tour with her best run being to the semi-finals of the St. Petersburg Open back in March. However, only one of those victories has occurred at a Grand Slam tournament which was the Australian Open back in February.
During her career, she has won 18 WTA titles and has earned more than $25.8M in prize money.
