Andy Murray edged past Oscar Otte 6-3 4-6 4-6 6-4 6-2 to reach the last 32 at Wimbledon.

The Brit edged past the German qualifier in five dramatic sets to reach the third round at SW19.

Next for Murray will be Denis Shapovalov who had a walkover into the third round.

It was Murray who made the better start as he used his defensive skills to move the German qualifier around Centre Court.

As for Otte he was in unfamiliar circumstances but was able to serve well and attack the Brit using his forehand.

Murray was able to strike first on his fourth opportunity forcing errors out of the German and managing to claw one more ball back.

The three-time grand slam champion’s returning continued to excel and he secured the set with another break of set as he took the first set 6-3.

In the second set it all seemed to go to plan when Murray once again managed to neutralise the points and break taking a 3-1 lead.

However the former world number one once again made life difficult for himself as he looked weary and lacked power to make Otte uncomfortable.

Meanwhile the German qualifier used his big serve, attacking forehand and confident net skills to apply the pressure on Murray.

Winning five of the next six games, Otte converted his fourth set point to level the match at one set all.

There was a lack of intent from the Brit all of the sudden who lacked ideas on return.

While Otte’s confidence grew into the match as he started to open up more spaces into the court to allow for more winners.

A break in the seventh game allowed the German qualifier to pounce on a massive opportunity as he converted his first set point for a two sets to one lead.

There was a mini-scare for Murray in the fourth set as he slipped and hurt his groin but luckily he was good to continue.

After four games of the set play was suspended due to the roof covering the court as Murray needed a much-needed break.

When he returned he was a man possessed as he continued to pick holes in the Otte game especially when the German approached the net.

An early break was what he wanted as he neared towards the fourth set but just as he was about to do that Otte took advantage of some conservative Murray play and we was back on serve.

But some deep returns and Murray secured the break to seal the fourth set as the Centre Court Crowd roared in delight.

The momentum was firmly on the Brit’s side and he pumped up the crowd even more by breaking at the start of the fifth side.

Otte cut a frustrated figure as his serve diminished as a weapon and Murray was retrieving everything.

Despite wasting a chance for a double break lead, Murray held serves effectively and sealed a monumental victory.

A test of stamina and fitness passed against an inspired opponent as he will now play Denis Shapovalov on Thursday in the last 32.
