The Italian got revenge on his Canadian opponent beating him in three tight sets.

Lorenzo Musetti avenged a loss he suffered to Felix Auger Aliassime in Barcelona a couple weeks ago by beating the number seven seed 7-6, 3-6, 7-5 in a match that lasted two hours and 46 minutes.

It was actually the Canadian who got off to the brighter start setting up two breakpoints in the first game of the match with a stunning passing shot but the Italian hung in and saved both before holding serve.

The next game it was the world number 88 with his first chance to break using his forehand to great effect but the world number 19 did a good job saving it.

The 19 year old Italian finally got the breakthrough to take a 3-1 lead before the Montreal native would storm back at 4-2 and would break to go back on serve. At 4-4 the world number 88 saved two breakpoints before managing to hold serve once more.

The first set would be decided by a tiebreaker and it was a pretty tight affair until 4-3 when Musetti would win three points in a row to take the first set.

The Canadian would bounce back in the beginning of the second set earning two breakpoints and breaking the Italian with another one of his forehand winners.

The world number 88 fought hard to try and get back the break the very next game and on his second chance broke to go back on serve before the Canadian would get the break back to take a 4-2 lead.

Musetti had one more chance to break to stay in the set but he was denied by the world number 19 and the Canadian served out the first set to send it to a deciding third set.

The Italian once again was made to work hard as he saved two breakpoints in the opening service game before the Canadian had his first of the set but the world number 88 would save it.

At 3-2 the 19 year old had two chances to break and this time he would get the break to take a 4-2 lead but the Montreal native wasn’t going to lie down and earned two chances to get the break back which he did.

At 6-5 with Auger Aliassime serving to stay in the match he encountered a tough service game and gave his Italian opponent two match points and would give the world number 88 the victory thanks to a double fault.

The Italian will now face another next gen player in Sebastian Korda in the next round.
