The Canadian and top seed only needed 61 minutes to dispatch her Spanish opponent.

Bianca Andreescu won her first match on clay in almost two years beating the Spanish qualifier Andrea Lazaro Garcia in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 in 61 minutes on centre court.

“Today was really good, I would put that match in my top 5 cleanest matches from start to finish, I went out there and yes the player I played was lower ranked so I try not to focus on that, I focused on playing at 100% and try my best and that’s what I did and I want to continue like that in every match”.

The Toronto native got off to a fast start winning the first three points of the match on her opponents serve and breaking in the first game of the match to take an early lead.

At 2-0 she would earn a double break using her aggressive game style to great effect earning a breakpoint with a stunning forehand winner and breaking to take a 3-0 lead.

It stayed on serve until 5-1 when the world number 7 earned a set point on her opponents serve and would break for a third time to take the first set in 23 minutes flat.

The second set was a more competitive affair and at 1-1 the world number 279 earned breakpoint but the number one seed would have no trouble saving it with her booming serve.

Once again it stayed on serve until 3-2 when the Canadian earned three more breakpoints and would break to take the crucial 4-2 lead and after consolidating the break she would earn three match points on the Spaniard serve and would take the match the following point.

After her match in her post match press conference she answered a question on how long it took to adjust playing on clay since she hadn’t played a match in almost two years.

“The first couple practices were shaky because of the bounces which I am not a fan at all and the long rallies but I improved my stamina and my endurance so that’s fine now but I was feeling really good with my game”.

She will next face either Maryna Zanevska another qualifier from Belgium.
