The Canadian won her second-round match against the Belgian but pulled out of the tournament afterwards due to an ab injury.
Bianca Andreescu beat the Belgian qualifier Maryna Zanevska in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 in 65 minutes on center court battling rain and difficult conditions.
“It feels really good, I’ve been working really hard to keep my focus during the match from beginning to end and keeping the same level of intensity and really high percentage and consistency and I have been doing really well so far”.
The number one seed once again got off to a very fast start holding her opening service game and earned two early chances to break after the world 259 would serve a double fault and she would break with her powerful forehand.
It stayed on serve until 4-1 when the world number seven set up a breakpoint and went up a double break the following point with a superb passing shot before serving out the first set in 25 minutes.
The second set was a much more competitive affair with both players holding their opening service game and at 1-1 the Belgian served a double fault to give the early break once again.
The Odessa, Ukraine native would earn three breakpoints the very next game and break right back. She would then take her first lead after holding serve and breaking the Canadian a second time to take a 4-2 lead.
The Toronto native responded the very next game breaking right back and holding serve to make it 4-4 before earning the crucial break the very next game and serving out the match.
After the match, she did however announce that she is pulling out of the tournament due to an ab tear injury and she decided to pull out not to take a risk of aggravating it a week before the French Open.
“I don’t think it’s serious but in the past, I have pushed through a lot of injuries and it got them worse and I want to learn from those mistakes and that’s why I don’t want to push it before a grand slam”.
Finally she told Ubitennis what she will be able to take from her experience in Strasbourg to Paris and the French Open which begins on Sunday.
“Well it’s nice to be back first of all and playing on clay, lots of preparation before this, and it’s been great and I think I portrayed that super well in my matches and I played super clean and hopefully I can take this momentum into the next tournament and keep getting some wins”.
