World Number 1 and 2019 Roland Garros champion Ashleigh Barty will be in the spotlight at the Brisbane International, which also features defending champion and World number 2 Karolina Pliskova, World numebr 3 and 2018 US Open Naomi Osaka and former world number 1 Venus Williams, who will take part at this tournament for the first time in her career, 2017 Elina Svitolina, Petra Kvitova, Kiki Bertens, Samantha Stosur and Angelique Kerber.
Pliskova started her 2019 season with her title in Brisbane and went on to win trophies in Rome and Eastbourne.
“I am really looking forward to returning to Brisbane to defend my title. The conditions seem to work in favour there and I have enjoyed great results. Winning the Brisbane title in 2019 set my season up and I am keen to lift the trophy for the third time in Queensland”,said Pliskova.
In last year’s Brisbane final Pliskova came back from one set down to beat Lesla Tsurenko 4-6 7-5 6-2.
“To be able to add Venus, Sam, Elina and Alja to another blockbuster field says a lot about the Brisbane International and the city as a destination to visit. Players arrive here at the start of the season fresh from a well-earned rest and we are looking forward to showcasing the best of women’s tennis with the best match-ups at the Queensland Tennis Centre”, said Brisbane International Tennis Tournament Director Mark Handley.
