World number 1 Ashleigh Barty, US Open champion Bianca Andreescu, Wimbledon champion Simona Halep, Naomi Osaka and Karolina Pliskova are among the five nominations for the WTA Player of the Year.

Barty won her first Grand Slam title last June at Roland Garros the 2019 WTA Finals in Shenzhen and scored a Tour-leading wins during the season.

Andreescu claimed titles at Indian Wells and her maiden Grand Slam title at the US Open and has enjoyed a remarkable record of 48 wins and 7 defeats. The young Canadian player is also nominated in the WTA Most Improved Player of the Year catagory, which also features 15-year-old rising star and Linz champion Coco Gauff, Karolina Muchova, Elena Rybakina, Iga Swiatek and Dayana Yastremska.

Osaka lifted her second Grand Slam title at the Australian Open a few months after winning the US Open final against Serena Williams.

Halep won the Wimbledon final against Serena Williams and scored 43 titles during the 2019 season.

Pliskova won three titles in Brisbane, Rome and Eastbourne and reached the semifinal at the Australian Open and the final at the WTA Finals in Shenzhen against Ashleigh Barty. Pliskova hit 488 aces during the 2019 season.

Elise Mertens and Aryna Sabalenka are in contention for the WTA Doubles Team of the Year against Barbora Strycova and Hsieh-Su Wei, Kristina Mladenovic and Timea Babos as well as Zhang Shuai and Samantha Stosur.

Belinda Bencic (Dubai and Moscow champion and WTA Finals semifinalist in Shenzhen), Amanda Anisimova, Sofia Kenin, Alison Riske, Zheng Saisai and Donna Vekic are in contention for the WTA Most Improved Player of the Year.

Bencic is also among the contenders for the WTA Comeback Player of the Year with Svetlana Kuznetsova and Bethanie Mattek Sands.
