Novak Djokovic has reflected on a ‘positive’ week after beating David Goffin 6-3 6-4 to reach the Tokyo final.
The world number one was playing his first tournament since suffering a shoulder injury at the US Open and it couldn’t have gone any better for the Serb so far.
This is as Djokovic has notched up four wins this week and his latest over world number 15 David Goffin means he is into his first final since winning Wimbledon.
Having saved all four break points against him, Djokovic broke four times in the 90 minute win to secure a place in the final in Tokyo.
After the match, Djokovic reflected on his positive week as he looks to end the year as the world’s best player, “I’m very satisfied with the way I’ve been playing the whole week,” Djokovic told atptour.com.
“It’s been a very positive week on the court, off the week as well. Hopefully I’ll be able to crown it tomorrow with a trophy.”
Not only has Djokovic reached his fifth final of the season but he has gained ideal preparation ahead of the one major accomplishment that is missing from his career and that is the Olympic games.
The Olympics takes place next summer in Tokyo, Japan and the Serb will be pleased about how he has coped with conditions ahead of next year.
Next for Djokovic will be John Millman, who beat Reilly Opelka 6-3 7-6(4) to reach the biggest final of his career so far.
Ahead of the contest the Wimbledon champion praised Millman for his attitude towards tennis, “I saw today that he had a very good, solid win against Opelka, who was in form and is never easy to play against because he has such a big serve,” Djokovic said.
“And Millman is someone that is fighting hard, he’s a real fighter on the court. He never gives up. He has a positive attitude, he runs for every ball and he makes you play.”
The final will take place at 3:30pm local time, with Djokovic leading the head-to-head 2-0 as both wins came last season.
