Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos lifted their first ATP doubles title as a team after beating Dutchmen Robin Haase and Wesley Koolhof 7-5 7-5 in the final of the Rogers Cup in Montreal.
The Spanish and Argentine team won 84% of their first serves, converted two of their four break points and did not face a single break point.
Both players held serve with no break points until the 12th game, when Granollers and Zeballos broke serve on a deciding point. They broke Koolhof and Haase again in the 12th game of the second set to seal the win.
Zeballos won a doubles title earlier this year with Nikola Mektic. Granollers clinched two doubles trophies in Rome 2012 and Paris Bercy 2018.
“This is great. It’s completely crazy. I never expected that. It means a lot for me, as since last year I am only playing doubles”,said Zeballos.
Koolhof and Haase finished runners-up for the third time this season.
“It was a great match. You played amazing. I hope you felt as well that you played amazing, Robin, another final together, another loss. So we can still improve. Thanks good. Thanks for playing. It’s been a great week with some very good, entertaining matches”, said Koohlof.
