LONDON: Organisers at the Fever-Tree Championships face a race to get back on track on Wednesday at the tournament after 10 matches were forced to be suspended due to poor weather.
Rain throughout Tuesday meant that not a single ball was hit at The Queen’s Club. Something that has only happened twice before over the past 18 years. The 2011 final, which was postponed till Monday, and on the opening day of the 2012 championships.
Players such as Stefanos Tsitsipas, Grigor Dimitrov and Stan Wawrinka will have to wait a further 24 hours before playing. It is not the first time this year that poor weather has caused havoc in the world of tennis. At both the Italian Open and French Open, organizers canceled one days’ worth of play due to the rain.
Disappointed fans in London will at least get a full refund for the face value of their tickets in accordance with the raincheck policy. Refunds will only be made to the person who purchased the tickets.
“Refunds for ticket holders who purchased their tickets in advance (internet/telephone) from the Official Tournament Box Office by credit or debit card or PayPal will be processed automatically to the original purchaser. Transaction and booking fees are non-refundable.” The policy states.
“In the event that you purchased your ticket by cash, cheque or from the on-site Official Tournament Box Office, you will need to send this ticket, by 31 July 2019, with the name of the payee, address and full postcode in block capitals, to the Fever-Tree Championships Raincheck Department, See Tickets, 2nd Floor, Norfolk House, 47 Upper Parliament Street, Nottingham, NG1 2AB.”
The tournament will be hoping to get back on track tomorrow during what will be a manic day. Andy Murray’s eagerly anticipated return to competitive tennis has now been pushed back by a day. Juan Martin del Potro, Stan Wawrinka, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Grigor Dimitrov are set to play all of their matches on Centre Court.
