The Czech Republic won its 11th Fed Cup title beating the USA, who defended the title they won in 2017. Katerina Siniakova sealed the decisive 3-0 win with a dramatic 7-5 5-7 7-5 win over Sofia Kenin after three hours and 45 minutes. The Czech have lived up to their reputation as the Fed Cup nation with six titles in the past eight year. Petr Pala led the Czech team to world titles in 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2018 becoming the most successful Fed Cup captains of all time.

Former world number 2 Agnieszka Radwanska announced her retirement from tennis due to foot injury problems last November. During her career the Polish star won 20 WTA titles, reached the Wimbledon final in 2012 before losing to Serena Williams, reached the Australian Open semifinals twice in 2014 and 2016 and the French Open quarter-final once in 2013.

“Unfortunately I am no longer able to train and play the way I used to, and recently my body can’t live up to my expectations. Taking into consideration my health and the heavy burdens of professional tennis, I have to concede that I am not able to push my body to the limits required”, wrote Radwanska on her Facebook account.

Fans will miss Aga’s elegant and creative tennis style and her spectacular shots, which made her one of the most popular players on the WTA circuit.
