World number four Juan Martin Del Potro has announced his withdrawal from the Rogers Cup in Toronto due to let wrist pain.
The Argentinian reached the final of Los Cabos last week, where he lost to Fabio Fognini and has explained that he needs more rest in order to play at 100%, “Sorry to my fans in Toronto, but I have to pull out of the tournament since my left wrist needs some days of rest.”
The former US Open champion was due to play Robin Haase in Toronto but a recent injury setback has seen him having to withdrawn. Despite Del Potro’s good season having won in Indian Wells in March and reaching the quarter-finals at Wimbledon, the Argentine has had his fair amount of injuries with his wrist and groin becoming concerns this year.
Lucky Loser Mikhail Youzhny will now replace Del Potro in the draw, with the 29 year old’s next tournament taking place in Cincinnati next week.
