Newly crowned Wimbledon champions Novak Djokovic and Angelique Kerber demonstrated their dancing skills during the Champions dinner on Sunday evening.
In keeping with the tournament’s tradition, the last day is always followed by a night-time dinner to celebrate the achievements of the players at the Championships. The traditional event has been held annually since 1977 when the LTA Ball was moved. This year’s dinner was hosted at the Guildhall in London.
Kerber became the first German player to win the singles trophy since 1996 after defeating Serena Williams 6-3, 6-3, on Saturday. Earning her third grand slam title. Meanwhile, Djokovic overcame South Africa’s Kevin Anderson 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(3), to win his 13th grand slam title. Becoming only the fourth man in history to do so after Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Pete Sampras.
The two champions even shared a dance together on the main stage of the venue. Prompting cheers from those attending. According to the Wimbledon, the tradition of dancing between the two champions ceased in 1977. Nevertheless, former winners have danced together since.
