Once again Simona Halep finds herself on the verge of a grand slam title following her latest win at the French Open.
The top seed held her nerve to dismiss Garbine Muguruza 6-1, 6-4, to reach her third French Open final. Also securing her No.1 ranking for the immediate future. Awaiting her on Saturday will be Sloane Stephens, who dismissed compatriot Madison Keys 6-4, 6-4. Halep leads Stephens 5-2 in their head-to-head, but Stephens is the reigning US Open champion with little to lose.
In the men’s draw, Rafael Nadal continued his dominance of the tournament with a four sets wins over Diego Schwartzman. The Spaniard dropped the opening set on Wednesday before rain postponed the match until today. Resuming the match, the top seed cruised to a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2, win. Setting up a showdown with Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro, who also required four sets to defeat Marin Cilic.
