Petra Kvitova has suffered a minor setback ahead of the Wimbledon Championships after pulling out of The Eastbourne International due to injury.

Kvitova, who was the third seed in the tournament, has cited a hamstring issue as the reason for her withdrawal. The Czech started her campaign on the grass last week at the Birmingham Classic where she defeated Magdaléna Rybáriková to win the title. Her fifth on the tour this year. In Eastbourne, she defeated Kateryna Bondarenko earlier this week before quitting the tournament.

“I’m really disappointed to have to withdraw from Eastbourne this morning. I felt my hamstring in the Birmingham final and although I played with tape in my match here yesterday, when I woke up this morning it felt worse.” Kvitova said in a statement.
“With Wimbledon around the corner I couldn’t take the risk of making it worse by playing today. I am so sorry to the fans here in Eastbourne who won’t see me play but I hope to be back at this beautiful event next year.”

It is unclear as to how serious the issue is or if it will have any impact on Kvitova’s Wimbledon bid. She is bidding to win the grand slam for the third time in her career and the first since 2014.

As a result of the withdrawal, Agnieszka Radwanska goes through to the quarter-finals. The Polish world No.31 has recently missed two months of the tour due to a back injury. It is the first time she has reached the last eight of a WTA event since the Sydney International in January.

“Sometimes it’s good to take the step back and start from the beginning. Now I’m feeling good, healthy, fresh. Of course match rhythm is always something that you need to have after a couple of matches, but playing today like this, I didn’t really feel that I miss whole clay court season and didn’t play a match last two months. So I guess that’s good.” Radwanska recently reflected about her time away from the sport.

Radwanska will play either Jelena Ostapenko or Mihaela Buzarnescu in the next round.
