Henri Kontinen and John Peers shocked Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares 7-6(2) 6-2 to advance to the final at the World Tour Finals.
Heading into the match Kontinen and Peers lead the head to head 4-1, however they had a nervy start as Kontinen faced pressure on his serve as he had to save break points.
Both teams hit early double faults as they looked to grab an early advantage over their opponents. In their last match Murray and Soares beat Kubot and Melo and they certainly used that match as momentum heading into their Semi-Final match.
Serving was at a high standard in the match as there were several comfortable service holds as the set was heading towards a tiebreak.
Despite Murray and Soares saving four set points they were eventually outdone in the tiebreak as some sizzling returns from Henri Kontinen, saw the defending champions take the tiebreak 7-2.
The second seeds only got stronger as they broke early in the second set and race into an early 2-0 lead. Kontinen and Peers were having fun in the second set and a sensational Kontinen volley secured their second break of the match for a 5-2 lead.
The Australian Open champions served out the match to break British and Brazilian hearts as they made the final at the World Tour Finals for the second year in a row.
They will now play the number one team in the world, Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo as they thrashed Roland Garros champions Ryan Harrison and Michael Venus 6-1 6-4.
The Polish-Brazilian combination produced some sizzling returns to break serve three times to seal victory in over an hour. The win means it is their 9th final of the season.
Tomorrow’s doubles final between Kubot/Melo and Kontinen/Peers will be at 3:30pm local time.
