For the third time in her career, Martina Hingis has confirmed her retirement from tennis and will play her final tournament in Singapore this week.
Since launching her comeback in doubles in 2014 she has won four grand slams and become world number one multiple times. Her main partners Yung-Jan Chan and Sania Mirza have been influential in her success on the doubles court.
After her doubles victory today she told the press that she told Chan at the beginning of the season that she would announce her retirement after Singapore. The Swiss legend won 29 titles on her comeback trail and could add another to her collection in Singapore.
The news broke earlier in the day and clarified the news on her Instagram page, with an emotional message to all her fans, which you can see below:

It will be interesting to see what the current US Open doubles champion does next as she looks to explore new opportunities within the tennis community. A coaching role could be one option as she has previous experience with Belinda Bencic in this role.
Another option could be Switzerland Fed Cup captain as she still loves representing her country and made several appearances during her comeback stint.
Martina Hingis will hope to add another title to her collection as she is in the Semi-Finals of the WTA Finals with partner Yung-Jan Chan.
