Roger Federer has dominated the first three months of the 2017 season and this should come as no surprise as I am about to explain.

Roger Federer has surprised the tennis world so far as he is basically won every big tournament that has ocurred. After winning the Australian Open in Melbourne and then winning the sunshine double in Indian Wells and Miami. Now some people are surprised, saying that considering his age he should not be dominating like he is. However I am not surprised, here is why:

Injuries To The World’s Best?

Let’s think about this scenario, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray are both injured after setting a very high and consistent bar for the tennis world to follow in 2016, and we are expecting them to not feel the effects and keep up this standard in 2017? I don’t think so, everybody feels the effects of hard work on their body at some point in their career and would be very harsh to expect these two athletes to be superhuman. So Federer taking advantage of this is not a surprise considering how well he played before he was injured.

Pace Of The Court

One thing in 2017 we surely must of knew was that the pace of the court was going to increase dramatically. This is as many top players were complaining that the surface was too slow and that other playing styles were not being showcased enough. So when Roger Federer was watching the backend of the 2016 season, he must of been licking his lips at the site of a fast paced ATP World Tour. It is no coincidence that tournament organisers decide to increase the pace of hard courts when Roger Federer returns to the tour, hence the reason Federer has been able to implement his game so well at the start of the season and gain such success.

Playing well before he was injured?

The tennis world is acting like Roger Federer was playing badly before he got injured at Wimbledon last year. However the honest truth is that this isn’t the case. Federer reached the semifinals and finals of big tournaments before he was injured. So continuing the good work from last season should not come as a shock to anybody and the fact is that he is playing as well now than in 2016.

What Next For The Fed Express?

Roger Federer will now not play another tournament until the Rome Masters in mid May. Now that the ATP World Tour hits the clay courts, Federer can gain his valuable rest before he goes for grand slam number 19 in London at Wimbledon on his beloved grass courts.
