The world of tennis has taken to social media to send their wishes to Ana Ivanovic after she announced her retirement from tennis at the age of 29.
The former world No.1 announced her decision on Wednesday evening in a live video uploaded to her Facebook account. During her career, the Serbian spent 12 weeks as world No. 1, clinched the 2008 French Open title and play in 48 consecutive grand slam tournaments. Ivanovic is the first and so far only Serbian female grand slam champion since the country’s independence in 1992.
Shortly after the announcement, tributes poured in from both present and past players. Billie Jean King said that she would miss Ivanovic’s ‘spectacular smile‘ and Carline Wozniacki said she ‘will be missed on the tour‘.
