In this week’s ATP world tour rankings, Richard Gasquet elevated to number 16 in the world after he captured his 14th title of his career at the European Open.
Richard Gasquet won the inaugural European Open in Antwerp after defeating Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman 7-6(4) 6-1. It is the Frenchman’s second title of the season after he won in Montpellier earlier in the season. As a result Gasquet now moves up three places in the ATP world tour rankings to number 16 in the world. He will now hope to continue his momentum next week as he plays the Swiss Indoors event in Basel. Other movers this week saw David Goffin rise up one spot to number 11 this week after reaching the semifinals in Antwerp. Despite being suspended for the rest of the season, Nick Kyrgios reached a career high of number 13 in the world after moving up a spot this week. However there were some players that fell down the rankings, such as Marin Cilic and Roberto Bautista Agut as they fell down by one spot in the ATP rankings. The biggest faller inside the top 20 this week was David Ferrer, he fell 4 places to number 19 this week.
Biggest Mover
Juan Martin Del Potro is this week’s biggest mover. The Argentinian accelerated to number 42 in the world this week after he won his first title in two years. The big serving Argentine beat top players such as Ivo Karlovic, John Isner, Grigor Dimitrov and Jack Sock to climb 21 places in the rankings. As a result Del Potro has regained his spot as Argentina’s number one after overtaking Federico Delbonis, who is currently ranked at number 48 in the world. He will hope to continue this momentum, when he plays in Basel next week.
