Juan Martin Del Potro beat John Isner 6-4 7-6(6) on Wednesday to advance to the second round.

The Argentinian started the brightest of the two players by breaking in the fifth game to lead 3-2 in the first set. He then carried on his momentum as he served effectively to grab the first set 6-4.

The world number 63 saved four break points to hold at the start of the second set. After that tight game both men served very effectively, as the second set went to a tiebreak. The tiebreak was very tight between the two big servers, however it was the Olympic silver medalist who had that killer instinct and took the tiebreak 8-6. Clinching the win after an hour an 30 minutes of play, Del Potro reflected on his latest win as he prepares for his second round meeting against Nicolas Almagro.

However it wasn’t all bad news for Americans in Stockholm, as defending finalist Jack Sock defeated Malek Jaziri 3-6 6-3 7-6(5) to reach the second round. The world number 23 won 79% of his 1st service points and held his nerve to complete victory in 2 hours and 17 minutes. The win competes his 31st singles victory of the season. He will now play the entertaining Dustin Brown in round two.

The final 1st round match of the IF Stockholm Open saw Jurgen Zopp defeat Benjamin Becker 6-3 6-4. The Estonian served down 11 aces as he completed his 1st ATP world tour victory of the season. He will now play second seed Grigor Dimitrov in the last 16.

Second round matches also started today, as third seed Ivo Karlovic progressed to the quarterfinals with a 4-6 6-4 6-4 win over Swede Mikael Ymer. The Croatian served down 15 aces in his impressive win, which will see him play Nicolas Almagro or Juan Martin Del Potro next.

Finally Alexander Zverev also progressed to the last eight as the fourth seed beat Adrian Mannarino 7-5 6-4. The world number 20 broke three time as he completed victory in under 1 hour and 28 minutes. He will now play either Tobias Kamke or Radu Albot next.
