Karolina Pliskova is earning herself a reputation of taking the No.1 position from players. First she defeated Angelique Kerber in the final of the Cincinnati Open to prevent her from rising to the top. Then at the US Open she stunned Serena Williams in the semifinals, enabling Kerber to end her 186-week run as world No.1.
“I had a goal, that’s what I did,” Pliskova said following her win to reach her maiden major final.
Pliskova is only the third player in history to defeat both Williams sisters at the US Open after defeating Venus in the quarter-finals. Speaking about her breakthrough run at the tournament, the Czech joked about her double triumph.
“Probably all of America hates me because I beat both Williams sisters.” She said.
