Johanna Konta – Bethanie Mattek-Sands
Johanna Konta has rightfully earned the reputation of the darling of British tennis following her recent results. Last month she defeated Venus Williams to win her maiden WTA title at the Stanford Open, a Premier event.
Awaiting the world No.14 in the first round at Flushing Meadows will be crowd favourite and doubles specialist Bethanie Mattek-Sands. The former top-30 player was awarded a wildcard into the tournament after winning a gold medal in the mixed doubles at the Olympic Games in Rio.
There will be no doubt that the British player will not have the crowd on her side in New York, however, judging on her current form a win is highly expected.
