Simona Halep – Kirsten Flipkens
Simona Halep will be bidding to continue her spotless record against Kirsten Flipkens. The world No.5 have defeated the Belgian on four previous occasions without dropping a set.
Halep’s record is an impressive one, but it shouldn’t be taken for granted against a player such as Flipkens, who has defeated a series of high profile players this season. The 30-year-old has already grabbed victories over Venus Williams, Garbine Muguruza, Johanna Konta and Monica Puig.
It is expected that Halep should be able to grab win No.5 against Flipkens after her successful summer on the tour. Since July she has won titles in Bucharest and Toronto, and progressed to the last four in Connecticut (losing to Angelique Kerber).
The first round match is certainly Halep’s to lose.
