Former top 10 player Janko Tipsarevic will end his injury absence from the ATP tour at the upcoming Chennai Open in India.
The 31-year-old hasn’t played a match since the US Open after undoing an operation on his right knee in October. At the time Tipsarevic admitted that he has been plagued by knee problems since his comeback at the start of this year due to another injury. During 2013 and 2014 the Serbian has been affected by a benign soft tissue tumour on his foot, commonly known as Fibromatosis.
Tipsarevic will return to the Chennai Open in January, three years after winning his 4th ATP title at the tournament. His triumph in India was the last time that he has won a title on the ATP World Tour. During his injury-stricken season, the Serbian has played only ten singles matches in 2015, losing 7 of them. The series of troubles has lead to Tipsarevic falling down the rankings to 406th in the world.
Currently the 31-year-old is conducting his off-season training. According to blic.rs, the former world No.8 has been recently training in Kopaonik, a mountain resort in Serbia. Part of his training has included running and hiking.
The Chennai Open will get underway on January 4th. The tournament will be headlined by Stan Wawrinka, who is bidding to win the tournament for the third successive year. Other entrants for the 21st edition of the tournament include Kevin Anderson, Benoit Paire and Roberto Bautista Agut.
