A report by wealth intelligence company Wealth-X has revealed the ten richest tennis players in the world. The combined wealth of the top ten amounts to a staggering $1.035 bn.
Headlining the list is Roger Federer, who has a net worth that is twice as much as his nearest rival. The 17-time Grand Slam champion is the fifth highest paid athlete in the world this year with an income of $67 million according to a Forbes report. The $67 million is just 20.3% of his total net worth which is valued at $330 million.
In the list Women outnumber the men 6-4. Leading the ladies is Maria Sharapova, who has a net worth of $160 million, $30 M more than the current world number one Serena Williams. Labelled as the world’s most marketable female athlete by Forbes, the Russian has enjoyed success both on and off the court. Outside of tennis she is the founder of a premium confectionery collection company called Sugapova and is the Co-Owner of premium sun care product company SUPERGOOP!
80% of the list features players from Europe, with the two exceptions being Serena Williams (number 3) and Venus Williams (number 6). The only player in the top ten who is without a Grand Slam title is Caroline Wozniacki. The two-time US Open runner-up is ranked 9th with a net worth of $30 million. A 2015 report estimated that the Dane made $14.5 Million in the last 12 months, but $11 million of that was made off the court.
