World No.2 Andy Murray will start working work with new assistant coach Jamie Delgado at the Indian Wells Masters.

The Daily Mail revealed in January that Delgado was ‘working behind the scenes’ during Murray’s campaign at the Australian Open, sitting away from the rest of his camp in the stands. Delgado will replace Jonas Bjorkman, who parted ways with Murray in December.

Delgado joined Murray last week at the All England Club in Wimbledon as the Brit returned to training following the birth of his first child.

The two men have been friends for a long time after meeting each other during a training camp in Barcelona when they were young. During the 2015 Aegon Championships, Murray spoke highly about Delgado’s work with Gilles Muller.

“Jamie is very knowledgeable about the game,” Murray said last June.
“He loves tennis. He’s obviously been on the tour himself for a long time. He’s done a very good job with Gilles.”
“Gilles was coming back from an injury when they started together, but I’m pretty sure he’s helped get him to his career-high ranking.
“He’s done a very good job there and he’s a good friend of mine.”

Under the guidance of Delgado, Muller ended 2015 inside the top 40 for the first time in his career at the age of 32. According to Luxemburg media, Delgado ended his partnership with Muller in January to ‘take on new challenges’.

The new addition to the Murray camp will not have any impact on Amelie Mauresmo, who will remain Murray’s principal coach. Delgardo is expected to travel with Murray during the majority of the year and will also be a hitting partner for the Brit.

38-year-old Delgardo is a former player who reached a ranking best of 121 in 2001. During his career he claimed three Challenger titles. Delgado’s biggest triumphs occurred in the doubles where he reached a ranking best of 57th in 2012. On the doubles circuit, he won 16 Challengers with a variety of players, including Bruno Soares and Jamie Murray.
