
World number 5 Lucie Safarova has been admitted to Hospital following a bacterial infection.
Safarova has recently been troubled by an ab injury which she sustained during the Connecticut Open in New Haven, where she reached the final before losing to Petra Kvitova. Due to the injury issue, the Czech lost in the first round of the US Open to Lesia Tsurenko. It was the first time that the 28-year-old has lost in the first round of a Grand Slam since the 2013 French Open.
Safarova confirmed that she was admitted to hospital in a Facebook post.

Safarova is currently at a career ranking high of 5th in the world. Earlier this year she reached the final of the French Open where she lost in three sets to Serena Williams. The 28-year-old also won her fourth WTA title earlier this year in Doha. On the doubles circuit Safarova has also enjoyed success this year. She won the Australian and French Open doubles titles with Bethanie Mattek-Sands.
