Swiss player Timea Bacsinszky eased past French 21-year-old rising star Caroline Garcia with 6-3 6-0 in 66 minutes to win her second WTA title. The 25 year-old player reeled off eight games from 4-3 in the first set to clinch her first title since 2009. Garcia won just 14 points in the second set when she never earned a break point
Bacsinszky crowned a fantastic week in which she dropped just one set in her 2-6 6-2 6-3 comeback win over Dutch qualifier Richel Hogenkamp. In these matches Bacsinszky went down a break twice in the second set and in the third set.
The Acapulco win has crowned a fairytale comeback for the Swiss player who won the Luxembourg title in 2009 at the age of 20 when she was considered as one of the greatest rising stars on the WTA Tour but a series of injuries plagued the following three seasons. She dropped to World Number 578th position in the WTA Ranking in 2012 after reaching the 37th position in 2010. She started the 2014 season in 237th position in the Ranking but finished it in 48th place before improving her career-high at the start of 2015. After Acapulco she will move up to a new career-high in 31st position.
“Maybe I am like a good wine. With time I am better. I almost stopped playing in 2013.When I decided to play again at the French Open in 2013, I had a new team around me. I have a new coach and a new fitness coach. I have been working a lot with Swiss tennis. The road was long”, said Bacsinszky.
