TENNIS WTA FINALS – Despite her convincing win over Eugenie Bouchard, Serena Williams isn’t sure to qualify for the semifinals. The American will have to cheer for Halep tomorrow in the Singaporean evening.
Serena Williams reacted in great fashion to the biggest loss of her career giving only two games to Eugenie Bouchard in their last RR match of the WTA Finals.
Williams, however, sees her qualification to the last four still in jeopardy, given that, having lost two games, she secured Simona Halep a spot in the semis and, most of all, is sure of losing, no matter the score, if Ana Ivanovic wins in two sets tomorrow.
Knowing how hard her challenge was, the world number one started by looking slightly nervous and did not manage to convert three consecutive break points in the first game. However, after saving a break point in her own service game, she did not let Bouchard have any chance to take any further game until 6-1 5-0.
Credits are surely due to quite some nice tennis from the American, but the Canadian was clearly out of belief in her chances, after the bad losses in the previous two matches of her negative week at these WTA Finals of Singapore.
Quite unluckily for the first seed, she did not manage to close with no lost games in the second set, because of an unlucky game where she did not challenge a bad call and, later, Bouchard caught a lucky net-cord.
The world number one will then have to cheer for Halep tomorrow in the Singaporean evening.
