Another Wimbledon, another year where the Czech players are exceeding expectations in the women’s draw.
The European nation, which has a population of just under 11 million, is guaranteed to have a singles champion for the third time in the last four years. Karolina Muchova was the first to book her spot in the final after outlasting Coco Gauff in a roller-coaster 22-point final tiebreak in which she saved a match point. Meanwhile, Linda Nosková enjoyed a smoother ride with a straight-sets triumph over Marta Kostyuk.
Tomorrow, it will be the men’s turn to fight it out for a place in this weekend’s finals. Wild card Arthur Fery has stunned the tournament with his run, but faces his biggest test yet in the shape of Alexander Zverev. Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic will be hoping he has recovered from his five-hour-and-15-minute match a couple of days ago when he takes on top seed and defending champion Jannik Sinner.
