Mirra Andreeva says she is ‘super happy’ to have a coach who can read her emotions after moving to the second round of the French Open.

Andreeva, who was a semi-finalist at Roland Garros two years ago, defeated Fiona Ferro 6-3, 6-3 on Sunday in just over 70 minutes. The Russian saved six out of seven break points faced and hit 19 winners past her opponent. Although she also produced 25 errors, one more than that of Ferro.

The 19-year-old is the fourth female player this century to win a 12th match at Roland Garros whilst still being in their teens. The record is currently held by Coco Gauff, who won 15.

“When I saw the draw that I’m gonna play against Fiona, she’s a very difficult opponent to play against,” Andreeva said during her on-court interview.

“The last match that we played against each other was three years ago and I won in three sets but that was an unbelievable battle.

“I’m just super happy with the win.”

The world No.8 is currently 16-3 on the clay and has more wins on the surface than anybody else this season on the WTA Tour. Across all surfaces, she has won 30 WTA matches since the start of 2026. Something that has only been matched by Elena Rybakina.

Overseeing Andreeva’s rise is coach Conchita Martinez, who was a finalist at the French Open in 2000, as well as a semi-finalist on three other occasions during her playing career. The Spaniard was previously named WTA coach of the year for her work with Garbine Muguruza and has been officially mentoring Andreeva since April 2024.

“She always knows what to say at the right time. She knows what I’m going through sometimes,” Andreeva said of Martinez during her press conference..

“She can also feel when I’m nervous, even when I don’t know that I’m nervous. Today, before the match, I was a little bit cranky, and I was kind of up and down with my mood. First, I wanted to be alone, and then I was kind of all over everyone.

“She kind of understood that I was nervous before I did, and said a lot of nice and motivational things to me before the match, and it helped a lot.

“ I’m happy that she knows me well enough to help me at these kinds of moments.”

Andreeva is making her fourth main draw appearance at the French Open this year.
