Beatriz Haddad Maia has announced she will not play another tournament this year in order to get some extra rest.

The former world No.10 has decided to end her season early to ‘rest her body and mind for a longer period.’ Haddad Maia has dropped down to 40th in the WTA rankings on the same day of her announcement, which is her lowest position since the summer of 2022. Last week, she suffered a shock second round loss at the Korean Open to Germany’s Ella Seidel, where she was the defending champion. She hasn’t reached any WTA finals in 2025.

I’m making this post to share with you that I’m ending my 2025 season a little earlier than planned so I can rest my body and mind for a longer period,” Haddad Maia wrote in Portuguese on her Instagram account.
“Rest assured, I’ll come back stronger, and the best is yet to come! Tennis, I love you. See you soon again,” she later added.

The 29-year-old will miss two WTA 1000 events in Beijing and Wuhan, as well as other events in Asia she would have been expected to play in. She is now in danger of ending the season outside the top 50 for the first time since 2021.

Haddad Maia’s best performance of this year was achieved on clay at the Strasburg Open, where she reached the semi-finals before losing to Elena Rybakina. She also reached the last eight of two other WTA events and the fourth round of the US Open.

During her career, Haddad Maia has won four WTA titles, and her best Grand Slam performance was reaching the French Open semi-finals two years ago. She is also a former Australian Open runner-up in doubles.

Haddad Maia is currently the only Brazilian player ranked inside the top 150 in the WTA rankings.
